MODOS DE VER. MI COLECCIÓN DE ARTE

🇪🇸 Toda obra de arte es una representación de algo que ya existe en el mundo o algo que existe en la mente del artista. Pero, a la vez, “el arte vive a través de la influencia que ejerce sobre otro arte”, decía Joseph Kosuth. Van Gogh no hubiera pintado sus obras sin haber visto previamente el trabajo de Jean-François Millet y Yayoi Kusama probablemente no sería la artista que hoy es sin haberse relacionado con Georgia O'Keeffe.

John Berger, en el libro que inspira el título de la serie afirmaba que “lo que sabemos o lo que creemos afecta en el modo en que vemos las cosas”. ¿Cómo sería, por el contrario, acercarse al arte sin preconceptos? 

Modos de ver. Mi colección de arte es una serie que cuestiona y pone en tensión las ideas del valor del arte, la institución, la autoría, el aura y los diversos roles del artista (productor, curador, coleccionista). Esta colección de fotografías abstractas las tomé con mi cámara profesional a lo largo de cuatro años a obras de artistas reconocidos exhibidas en museos de todo el mundo, de variadas nacionalidades. 

Las fotografías abstractas generaron un acto mágico: una obra de arte que existía en el plano de lo real se transmutó en otra nueva, que dejó trazos visuales de esa primera esencia. Los originales se difuminaron por el medio fotográfico para transformarse en abstracciones en un nuevo contexto discursivo. Estas desafían al espectador para que las decodifique a su manera, sea buscando el referente del que nacen o encontrando algo inesperado. Durante el proceso de observación el visitante podrá jugar a develar las diversas capas de historia del arte que hay por detrás de cada una, pero sin la obligatoriedad de seguir un tiempo lineal, ni hegémonico, ni académico, sino con la posibilidad de encontrar conexiones inéditas entre las obras y, tal vez, nuevas historias de arte para contar.

WAYS OF SEEING - MY ART COLLECTION

It's probable that Van Gogh wouldn't have painted his artworks if he hadn't previously seen Jean-François Millet's work and Yayoi Kusama wouldn’t be the artist she is today if she hadn't related to Georgia O'Keeffe.

In the book from which the inspiration for the title of this series was gotten, John Berger says that “what we know and what we believe affects the way we see things”. How would it be, otherwise, to see art without preconceptions?

"Ways of seeing - My art collection" is a series that puts into tension the ideas of the value of art, the art institution, authorship, aura and the diverse roles of the artist (as producer, curator, collector). This collection of abstract photographs I took with my professional camera over four years from works by renowned artists from various nationalities exhibited in museums all around the world.

The abstract photographs exhibited here generated a magical act: a work of art that already existed was transmuted into a new one, which left some visual traces of that first essence. The originals were blurred by the photographic medium to become abstractions in a new discursive context. These abstractions challenge the viewer to decode them in their own way, maybe by looking up for the reference from which they were born or by finding something unexpected. During the observation process, the visitor will be able to play to reveal the different layers of art history that lie behind each one, but without the obligation to follow a linear, hegemonic, or academic time, but with the possibility to find unknown connections between the artworks and perhaps new art histories to tell.
